George Morris wrap up.

The George Morris clinic was very educational. The clinic was full of very skillful riders ranging from talented junior riders to top professionals. Mr. Morris set very challenging courses and lessons that tested both horse and rider to the brink. It was very impressive to watch these skilled riders rise to the challenge. Over the three day clinic, it was very obvious how much both horse and rider’s learned. We are very fortunate to have this amazing educational opportunity from one of the world’s best teachers and we look foreward to having Mr. Morris next year.

George Morris Clinic at Whip ‘N’ Spur

Whip ‘N’ Spur is very fortunate to host the George Morris Clinic in the Pacific Northwest every year. George Morris is one of the most talented riders and trainers in Equestrian Sports. He has revolutionized the sport and is the Chef d’ equipe for the USEF show jumping team.

The clinic is Friday, Saturday & Sunday, December 3-5, 2010, with the following schedule:

9:00-11:00 – 3’6″
11:15-1:15 - 4′
2:30-4:30 – 4’3

Cost to audit the clinic is $75 per day or $30 per session (cash or check made to Rich Fellers).
We will have a concession stand open with tasty food and warm drinks available for purchase throughout the day.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn from one of the greats of our sport.

For those of you who would like to order prints from this year’s show season, please click on the collage below and order prints directly through Lisa’s SmugMug site. 2nd Annual Halloween Party!

Thank you to all who shared in the festivities of our 2nd Annual Swan Training Halloween Party! It was a beautiful fall day at the barn with friends and family sharing in an afternoon full of fun activities and games both on horse back and off. There were obstacle courses for horses and riders, riding with a dollar bill under the thigh contest, egg balancing while riding at all gaits, a parade of horses in costume with their riders, bobbing for apples, doughnuts on strings and three legged races in the arena. JR spoiled us with great food as always and all of our sweet tooths were satisfied with sweet treats.

Working Student: Welcome Mary Beth Gray! Mary Beth has been riding horses since before she was born. She has been educated in hunters, jumpers, equitation, and western. She has spent the last 3 summers working for Julia Kubieck in WA. We are lucky to have her assistance this year. Welcome to Swan Training!

August Horsemanship/Sportsmanship Award Winners: Taylor Jackson & Peggy Cooper

Horsemanship/ Sportmanship Award: August winners of the horsemanship/sportmanship award are Taylor Jackson and Peggy Cooper! Taylor Jackson always has a smile on her face! She wants to learn all she can and is always willing to lend a helping hand. When Taylor has a frustrating lesson or round in the show ring, she always takes it as a learning opportunity and says how much fun it was! Peggy Cooper may not be at the barn everyday, not by choice but my location, but she is as connected as can be. She is all of our number one fans. Peggy is more helpful then one could imagine and she helps not to gain but simply to help. We can learn from both of these special people. Congrats to Peggy and Taylor!

Summer Show Season 2010 Wrap-Up

Our summer show season came to a sucessful end begining with the Oregon Summer Classic. Taylor and Hunter competed for the first time at the Oregon Summer Classic. Taylor won the class and Hunter placed 3rd. Congrats! Kathleen and Rafferty won the Childrens Hilcrest Medal final! Kathleen competed in her first USHJA national hunter derby. After two tough rounds, they placed 9th out of 27 top horses! Katie and her perfect pony, Carter, put in a beautiful round in the 2’6″ Hilcrest medal final and placed 4th! Tarik made a huge debut at the ripe age of 26. He was champion of the long stirrup hunter and reserve champion of the long stirrup equitation. Mia and Pippen had a great show with many huge accomplishments in the green pony division. Kay showed her young thoroghbred for the first time. They were always in the ribbons and won quite a few classes. The success continued the following week at the Northwest Spectacular. Madi and Starbuck were champion and reserve champion of the short stirrup division and were reserve circut champion for the summer! Katie and Carter had a great show. They were reserve circut champion for the pre children’s equitation and were reserve champion for the hunter pony divison. Katie competed in her first OHJA Mini Medal final and was second! Bailey competed in her first OHJA Children Medal final on a catch ride! Thank you Vicki Zacharias for provided a horse for Bailey to catch ride. Kathleen was reserve champion in the Restriced Children’s Equitation and was 5th on the OHJA Children’s Medal final. Kathleen also showed her pony, Pennie in the Green Pony division with much success. Natalie and Ari had another wonderful show. They were in the ribbons in the jumper ring and were 8th in the OHJA Adult Medal final. Tootsie showed in her first show and was always in the ribbons! Congratulations to all Swan Training riders who competed this summer. Everyone reached their goals and then some! Good luck this fall/winter at the schooling shows.
